T-mobile has come out of the gate with a mobile phone meant to replace its aging Sidekick series. The Mytouch slide leads the family of new MyTouch series cellular phones manufactured by HTC. It has a full QWERTY keyboard, a large touchscreen, and the Google Android OS.
The best aspects of the T-mobile mytouch 3g slide are in the design and hardware. The handset comes with a reusable, strong plastic case instead of the zippered pouch of previous models. It won’t earn any awards, though, so nearly all users will still be looking for MyTouch 3G Slide Cases soon after purchase. The T-mobile mytouch slide is available in three color choices: black, white, and dark red. The phone is shipped with the standard USB/wall charger and a USB data cable. This model also comes with earphones.
The 3G Slide is a little bigger than its brothers since it houses the full keyboard. It measures 4.55” long x 2.37” wide x .6” thick. There has been few complaints over the size as customers prefer the easy-to-use keyboard with plenty of space between each key. For the few who do not like the keyboard, the touchscreen Android keyboard can also be used.
The display on the Slide is 3.4” and features multi-touch functionality. This is a draw back, as nearly all Android-based phones have at least a 3.7” display. Under the display are the hardware buttons. The Slide features 4 buttons: Home, Menu, Back, and the new “Genius” button. On the right side of the phone also has a camera button, and there is a volume control on the left. In the software side, the slide comes equiped with android 2.1 with a promise of a free upgrade to 2.2 sometime in the near future. The user interface is custom-designed for the phone and is similar to the HTC Sense. The phone is great for using with social networking internet sites. It automatically updates contact information from the networks and provides a Friend Stream for new status updates and links posted by friends.
The MyModes feature of the phone allows users to customize their homepage for work or for play with all-different widgets, apps, and wallpapers for each. The Genius button, mentioned earlier, is used with Android to turn it into a voice-command system. The system is buggy at first, but as it learns your voice, it improves over time.
The phone also features a 5-megapixel camera. The camera works best outdoors. Indoor photos are noisy and dark.
Overall, the performance of the Slide 3G is very impressive. The OS doesn’t lag and internet speed is fast. The price is right, too, at less than $200. This will leave plenty of money for extra myTouch 3G Slide accessories.

Once again capitalizing on the overwhelmingly popular droid phones, T-Mobile and HTC have released another new Android product onto the market. The HTC myTouch 3G Slide phone is the latest edition to the HTC myTouch family most T-Mobile Android users have become familiar with. While this product should be able to help attract new users to use the Android operating system, it is a bit of a disappointment to those who were expecting something a little flashier and more competitive.
While initially seen as a competitor for the HTC Incredible or Droid 2, this is really more of a mid-range phone within the same class of the original Motorola Droid or LG Ally. The processor speed is a disappointing 600mhz for those looking for a high end product, though the HTC version of the 2.1 Android operating system performs fairly well despite this. Although the myTouch 3G Slide is not the device most thought it would end up to be, the price of it surely makes up for it and fits within the category it fits into.
The slide out keyboard is the main new feature, meant to draw in users who are new to Android touch screens. The rounded keys do make a far better solution than the more flat design seen by other slide phones like the original Motorola Droid or the Devour. The touch screen is larger than the original myTouch, coming in at 3.4 inches. This may not seem like much of an increase over the 3.2 inch screen of the original myTouch , but it makes a huge difference in viewing and use. The detracting factor from this screen is the resolution. The screen resolution on this device only comes in at 480 x 320.
Even though that keyboard is a positive improvement, we’re most likely to see more action with the touch screen since the myTouch 3G Slide features Swype typing capability.
