The refinement of iPhone software in the three years since the first release of the device has been what has made it into the “rock star” phenomenon it has become. The first version, released in 2007, already had features that hadn’t been seen in cell phones before that point. But price reductions and the continued refinement and addition of more and more apps has kept the iPhone’s popularity high. Other devices continue to match it in market dominance, but it has certainly changed the original “cell phone” concept into something much more complex and powerful.
