Motorola Krave ZN4 Review

Exactly 12 months when we reviewed the intriguing Motorola Ming, Moto finally has had a variant of the phone on the United states of america. The newest Motorola Krave ZN4 for Verizon Wireless offers the same basic design that resembles a Star Trek communicator, nonetheless it adds more features while offering innovative design tweaks with an intuitive and easy-to-use touch interface. We had a few complaints–there’s still no Wi-Fi, the digital camera lacks editing features and also the Browser and keyboard take acclimation–but the Krave remains a clear, crisp and satisfying device that’s guaranteed to turned into a conversation piece. Performance was agreeable as well as the cost of $149 with a two-year contract is reasonable.

Design
A descendant in the Motorola Ming, the ZN4 is beautiful. It appears as being a concept phone come to life. At 4.6 ounces and 4.1 x 2.0 x 0.8 inches, the product was comfortable to keep, when we placed it against our ear, the flat base of the unit felt just a little awkward against our face, since lid’s drop hinge rests entirely on your cheek. As with every clamshells, the ZN4’s earpiece is made into the lid. For the reason that lid is transparent, when you open the telephone the earpiece appears to be it’s floating, an element that’s visually arresting. Upon closer inspection, we will view a small wire mesh accumulating the lid on the earpiece. That mesh also enables the lid to be used being a touchscreen for controlling the display beneath it. Unfortunately the lid recognized our key presses about two-thirds of the time.

Keyboard
Although you can tap out messages while using the standard nine-digit and Moto’s predicative text keypad, there’s really no need since the Krave offers a full QWERTY keyboard. It’s convenient, to make sure, but there were mixed feelings about its design. The ZN4′s keyboard includes three dedicated punctuation keys, an “@” button, a well-placed space bar, clear and return controls, and also a shift button. You can access numbers and additional symbols via a secondary keyboard. Because of the phone’s accelerometer, it is possible to flip between your standard and QWERTY keyboard by rotating the device.

Display
Krave’s oblong 2.8-inch touchscreen measures 240 x 400 pixels, making its aspect ratio slightly longer/wider than most phone’s more standard 240 x 320 pixel screens. Consider these extra 80 pixels of screen property because the cellphone screen equivalent of legal-sized paper. With or with no extra pixels, Krave’s screen is all about as bright and images and text as detailed every other high-end Verizon phone we’ve used. The touch cover completely covers the front surface of the Krave save the chin. Whilst the touch cover is crystal clear and doesn’t marr the brightness or resolution from the main screen, the principle screen somehow seems brighter when it is naked. It doesn’t matter how clean and clear a window is, will still be a window.

In multimedia and call quality the $149 Motorola Krave ZN4 doesn’t disappoint. The clamshell design is actually comparatively compelling, but we were unhappy with the awkward on-screen keyboard and the inability to access more functions using the lid closed. People who do a whole lot messaging should select the identically priced LG Voyager, which shares many of the ZN4’s features (including Mobile TV) but sports a much more comfortable QWERTY keypad. But if you’re set on getting a touchscreen-only device, the Krave ZN4 may be worth a look. Similar product :Motorola i412.

The Samsung Captivate And Safe Driving

If you’ve recently got your hands on a Samsung Captivate, then you’re probably aware of many of its unique features. However, cell phones and driving rarely mix as a good combination. It’s not rare to find yourself honking and yelling at distracted drivers who are more focused on sending out a text message instead of paying attention to the road. Most states even have laws against it now. However, some accessories for the Captivate allow you to use the phone safely as you drive. The accessories being discussed here will allow the use of GPS, hands-free speech, and even read incoming text messages. Read on to discover how these safety accessories can once again allow you to use your phone while you drive.

There is one group of Samsung Captivate accessories that allow you to keep your head up while driving: mounts. If you’ve ever seen a GPS device in a car, then Samsung Captivate case mounts work about the same way. There are many to choose from. Some of them mount to the dashboard, yet others can mount to windows. All of these range from the very simple to the very intricate. The regular and simple mounts are basically two plates with a hinge. One side sticks to the dashboard, and the phone goes in the other. The advantage to these is that they take up a small amount of space.

However, you might want a mount with more features. If that’s the case, then you’ll want something with more gadgetry. There are many mounts available that can swivel, rotate, and flexible as you see fit. This can prove to be effective if you’re utilizing GPS and require assistance from the passenger. They can simply move it over to their side and move it back when finished. Most of these mounts are held in place by a very strong suction cup. However, some are available using adhesive if you need something stronger.

Having a Bluetooth headset will allow you to accept incoming calls without using your hands. With the voice recognition feature, you can even speak the name of any of your contacts and have the number dialed directly. The useful feature on the Captivate is labeled as text-to-speech. Using this feature, incoming text messages are read out loud by the phone. Don’t miss any of your important messages when driving in busy traffic. Just be sure you don’t try writing a text while you drive. As of yet, there is nothing available that lets you do that. However, voice recognition software is being developed that will one day allow you to translate your voice into text.

Finally, you’ll want to add a Samsung Captivate screen protector. While this may not contribute to road safety, it helps keep the screen on your phone unscratched and unscathed. These screen films are thin, transparent and invisible when placed correctly. They’re also rather cheap and come in packs of three or more. So, you’ll have plenty of replacements once the protector becomes worn. The best part is that these protectors are much cheaper to replace than the screen itself.

So, there you go. These are accessories that can provide safe measures when enjoying the extended capabilities of the Samsung Captivate. GPS applications can help provide accurate directions to destinations. Text to voice will make handling text messages extremely easy. And the heads-up case mount combined with a hands-free headset will allow you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. Finally, don’t forget to keep your screen looking new with one of the screen protectors available. Add up all these accessories, and you’ll be good to drive the road with your phone again.

The Extremely Lightweight And Portable T-Mobile G2

Two years after the release of the G1, T-Mobile’s first Android phone, the T-Mobile G2 has finally been unveiled. The G2 comes packed with some solid specs, and it’s the first phone to come out of the box running Froyo. The G2 is one of the fastest phones to go from the home screen to an application. Labeled as the successor to the G1, the T-Mobile G2 is a huge improvement in both the hardware and software departments.

Marketed as having 4G speed, the T-Mobile G2 is the first smart phone to support T-Mobile’s recently upgraded HSPA+ network. T-Mobile states the phone can reach download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps. This puts it in the range of other 4G networks. The G2 has an 800MHz Snapdragon MSM7230 mobile processor, and 512 MB of RAM. It also includes a 4GB of internal memory and an 8GB card that is preinstalled, which gives it a total of 12GB of memory. The 8GB card can be swapped out for one of the few 32GB models that are available. Although the G2 doesn’t have a 1 GHz processor like some of the new generation of smart phones, it still performs fast. The amazing battery life on a full charge provides up to 13 hours of use.

Weighing 6.5 ounces, the G2 has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and a 3.7 inch screen.The Z-hinge design is sturdy in operation. The digital camera is an upgrade from the G1’s digital camera. This 5-megapixel camera with LED flash is also capable of shooting 720p HD video. The G2 lets users upload videos to YouTube. Unlike the G1, the T-Mobile G2 has a 3.5mm slot for using standard headphones. It also includes SWYPE, which is becoming a common feature with smart phones.

Plenty of T-Mobile G2 accessories and apps are available for this phone. The G2 includes almost every Google app that is available. This includes Google Earth, Google Maps, Google Places, Gmail, Google Voice, and more. Preloaded apps that are not specific to Google include Amazon MP3, Facebook, Twitter, Quick Office, and Photo Bucket Mobile. If you are looking for protection for your phone, users are able to choose from several options. This includes a T-Mobile G2 case and a T-Mobile G2 screen protector. Cases include belt clips, hard cases, holsters, lanyards, leather cases, and side cases. The screen protector keeps your phone’s screen protected from dust, scratches, and finger prints.

The latest mobile telephone to be offered with 12 months free line rental is the Samsung G400.  The Samsung G400 is a clamshell version of the very favored Samsung Soul.  The Samsung Soul was ( is ) a particularly sleek and stylish 3G telephone that has a very giant external display screen.  The Samsung G400 is also equipped with a five mega pixel camera, which is a particularly impressive resolution for a mobile phone.  The Samsung G400 is a real treat for flip phone user’s ad it is certain to prove very hip, particularly on the twelve month free deals currently being offered.

The most striking feature of the Samsung G400 is the outsized external display screen, which renders full colour at a magnificent resolution of 320 x 240 pixels ( 2.2 inches ).  This is actually the same size and resolution as the internal display on this mobile phone, and actually makes for an impressive looking mobile telephone.  Having no buttons, the extra massive exterior display is touch sensitive and features haptic feedback for intuitive learning ( this handset will teach you how to operate it ).  The haptic feedback is similar to that employed in some of the more recent Motorola telephones

The Samsung G400 includes support for Bluetooth 2.0 and a net browser with support for Gmail!  The Samsung G400 also has an expandable micro SD memory slot into which you can put your own memory cards.  In terms of size, the Samsung G400 is reasonably compact measuring 103 x 52 x 15mm.  At time of writing Samsung have not begun to disclose the weight and battery life for this mobile telephone handset. 

The Samsung G400 is a tri band telephone making superb for those that travel ( and need their phone ) in different countries.  This mobile telephone also supports GPRS ; however, it does not support WiFi, a real limitation compared to competing telephones inside this price bracket.  In my view, a mobile telephone of this blueprint should have WiFi as standard.  However as the Samsung G400 is an an HSDPA ( High Speed Download Packet Access ) phone, you can still get download speeds of almost 7.2 Mbps in areas covered by a 3.G network, but, unlike WiFi you will have to pay your network provider on a per MB basis. 

As predicted with a telephone of this calibre, the Samsung G400 is equipped with a multimedia player which supports all major media formats ( MP3, WAV, i-melody, WMA, e-AAC+ and MMF ) as well as video playback.  There’s an FM tuneable radio with RDS for those that like listening to the radio as well as your own downloaded tunes. 

Though not released, there are already plans to offer the Samsung G400 with 12 months free line rental.  These twelve month free line rental deals offer the client the possibility to make a claim money back against their mobile telephone bills meaning they can get a free Samsung G400 with free inclusive minutes and free inclusive texts without it costing them anything!  However, it should be observed at the 12 month free deals do make a few stumbling blocks for customers trying to claim their money back, so are only OK for the savviest and determined of bargain hunters!
